Ah... you know, I'm Canadian, and this piece strikes me as positively reeking of smugness and self-regard. Canadians aren't one iota nicer than anyone else; they're just, currently, luckier.
Both parties to the conversation seem continually astonished at how monumentally selfless, enlightened and good they are, as opposed to all the other nasty people, particularly Americans.
Hey, Ms. Wolf, we -could- have been located between Germany and Russia. Or on the borders of China or Iran. What, no takers? Didn't think so, somehow.
I'm reminded of Tom Lehr's "Folk Song Army" lyrics:
"Because we're against poverty, war and injustice/Unlike the rest of you squares."

Dear S.M.
I was worried that someone might misunderstand what I was saying in the way that you have, so I phrased my remarks as clearly as I could. Canadians are indeed no better than anyone and I am very aware of how lucky we are.
Ah, well. If we can't misunderstand each other on the internet, where CAN we misunderstand each other? Cheers, sir!
